Nicolas "Nicki" Salomone
Birth: June 24, 1928
Death: December 29, 1954
Nicki was born Nicola in Sacco, Salerno and immigrated to the Bronx (NY) in 1933. His name was 'Americanized' when he got to the United States.
Nicki was the middle child of Pietro and Clementina Salomone. His older sister was Clementina "Tina" and his younger brother was John.
Nicki was laid back and mellow with a good sense of humor and a loyal heart.
He enjoyed playing stickball with the Oaks.
He served in the US Navy during WWII.
Nicki always wanted a big family. He was looking forward to having a son and wanted grandkids someday.
Before and after his service he worked for Lowry and Mund making pocketbooks. He went on to work for the US Postal Service as a mail carrier.
During the winter of 1954, he came down wtih bronchitis. The other guys (Tony M. Pete M. and Al C.) who he played poker with told him to stay home and get better. He said that he needed to work to make the tips. The bronchitis turned into pneumonia, which traveled down his sytem and shut down his kidneys. Nicki died in the Bronx VA Hospital on December 29, 1954.
